You Want What?
She refused to turn and look at him, despite the anger and imperious tone. As his wife, not his child, she felt no need to bend her knee to him.
"You will shut that thing off and go to bed - NOW!" he bellowed.
The only reason he wanted her in bed, in his condition - actually ever - was because he found that he couldn't fall asleep otherwise. Once he fell asleep, she could do anything she wished, including jumping up and down on the bed; but she (in his mind) had to be in bed in order for him to fall asleep.
Her condition, similar to his, required that she respond to his demand by sticking her tongue out and issuing a resounding raspberry in his direction. Though she knew it would only exacerbate the situation, she just had to do it. And she was right - it made the situation worse.
