Random Musings of a Curious Mind

Alice Ghostley

AP PhotoAlice Ghostley
I was saddened to read of the death of one of my favorite actresses. For years I have enjoyed watching Alice Ghostley's slightly off-center characters.

Whether she was the disappearing maid on Bewitched or the wacky friend on Designing Women, she was immensely watchable. The slightly loony Bernice Clifton was such a comical contrast to the cool, cultured Sugarbaker sisters. And Ms. Ghostley delivered the offbeat and often, off color, dialogue with such childlike honesty, that it was impossible not to just love her.

Happily, her wonderful performances are still available in reruns of both television series. Rest in peace, Ms. Ghostley.
