Random Musings of a Curious Mind

Memorial to Mark Harrald

I wanted to share this incredible story with you. As you know, Mark was in ICU following his lung surgery for many, many days. Due to a medication mix-up that had nothing to do with the hospital staff, his kidneys started shutting down and they had to induce a coma. He was in critical condition and, I imagine, not really expected to survive.

Well, Mark is stubborn and, as his sister-in-law pointed out, has nine lives. On the day they were moving him from the ICU to the nearby ward, the nurses told him that they had designed a plaque and were creating a memorial to him. Isn't that amazing?

We haven't gotten back to the ICU to see if the plaque is up yet, but I know that Mark was deeply moved by the love and concern that the staff sent his way. One of his surgeons even stopped by and gave him a shave!

Don't tell me that a VA hospital doesn't take great care of their patients. God Bless the Carl T. Hayden VA Medical Center and the amazing people who give their all.
