Time Change Increases Pedestrian Deaths

I was reading an article today that was a little frightening. Studies have shown that, after daylight savings time (DST) ends, pedestrians are almost 3 times more likely to be struck and killed by cars during the 6PM rush hour. By December, the statistics drop back down to numbers similar to those from October and continue their decline until May.

The reverse is true for the morning hours, when daylight comes earlier. Although pedestrian deaths drop during the 6AM rush hour, there are fewer walkers, so the morning reduction doesn't offset the evening increase. There is talk that implementing a permanent daylight savings time would save about 200 lives per year.

I don't mean to be difficult, but if changing the time twice a year is hazardous - why not just leave it alone?! It works for Arizona!
