Random Musings of a Curious Mind

"The individual has always had to struggle to keep from being overwhelmed by the tribe.

Growing Up Marsupial

AddThis Social Bookmark Button

I've recently taken on editing at BestOfTheWeb. My favorite categories are in the Kids and Teens section, especially different Science-related areas, such as Health and Living Things.

Just recently, I was working on categories for several Marsupial species. You know them - Kangaroos, Wallabies, Wombats, Possums, and their relatives. They are amazing creatures and I had a great time learning about them.

Then, today, I was channel-surfing and found "Growing Up Marsupial" on Animal Planet. It's about three people who become 'mum' to marsupial babies, with the goal of releasing them back into the wild. One has been working with a Quoll, another has Tasmanian Devil siblings, and the third a baby Wombat.

I've attached a link to the website and the schedule for subsequent airings. Please take a look. These babies, and their human 'mums', are just incredible.

Home Gyms

AddThis Social Bookmark Button

Now, this is the way I'd like to exercise - if I had the option - in the privacy of my own home. Every gym I've ever visited was filled with perfect bodies. Given my body system, it was just depressing to see all of these people - who didn't really seem to need the gym.

I have never seen offers for home gyms that I could afford - before today. I absolutely love the complete systems that have a really small footprint - especially since my whole apartment has a really small footprint.

Frankly, I have a huge need to trim down my waist and, you would not believe the shape of my upper thighs! I really have to get started on recreating my 30-year-old shape. The 40 pounds I've gained in the last 2 years, when I stopped being active, have just got to go!

Phentermine

AddThis Social Bookmark Button

I certainly wish that I had found this site a few weeks ago.

ConsumerPriceWatch.net has done all of the research and taken the guesswork out of choosing an effective diet pill. To start, they ranked the 200 top-selling diet products, based on a strict 12-point rating system that includes value, ingredient quality, safety, and weight-loss potential. If that weren't enough, they then scoured the web for the best available prices.

Take, for example, Phentermine. Until I found this site, I didn't know that it really isn't all that good at helping you lose weight, which would have been enough to know. ConsumerPriceWatch.net didn't stop there. They listed 10 products that work better.

If you're in the market for unbiased, clear-cut information about weight-loss products, this is the place to start.

Muscle Growth

AddThis Social Bookmark Button

I have been lucky throughout my life - when I want to build muscle, I simply exercise a little bit. Because I've never carried much body fat, it was easy for me to build visible muscle. Of course, as everyone now knows, I'm lazy so I don't consistently work out.

For those who are really looking for muscle growth, there are a lot of options out there. The really good ones explain that you can't pop a couple of pills, sit back, and watch muscles grow. There has to be a personal commitment and a great deal of effort.

Before you commit to gaining muscle mass, do some research and choose a product or company that will really help.

National Donate Life Month

AddThis Social Bookmark Button

Obviously, this is a subject near and dear to our hearts.
Tell someone: The need is great and growing.

* More than 95,000 people are in need of an organ for transplant.
* Each day, about 77 people get the organ transplant that gives them a second chance, but 17 to 19 others die because they did not receive an organ transplant.
* More than half the people on the waiting list for a donated organ are racial or ethnic minorities. Chances of getting a transplant increase if donor and recipient share the same racial/ethnic background.
OrganDonor.gov "April is National Donate Life Month"

Since 2003, April has been designated as Donate Life Month. There are 30 days in which you, your company, and your school can make a difference in the lives of people who need organ transplants. Programs exist for a myriad of applications.

Decision Donate is an instructional program for high schools, that helps students make informed decisions about becoming an organ donor.

The Workplace Partnership provides information about businesses that make donation information available to their employees. Find out how to get your company/employer involved.

Participate in National Donate Life Month events sponsored by an organization in your area. Help them spread the word!

As harsh as it may sound - when you're dead, you're dead. How incredible is it that from one death, the life of at least eight (8) people can be improved/saved? Don't think about death, think about life. Commit to Donation

What if You were on The List?

Drug Treatment

AddThis Social Bookmark Button

Some of the more effective drug treatment programs go far beyond managed withdrawal and the simplistic, Reagan-era "Just Say No" concept. They teach about the nature of addiction; that it's not a product of an immoral nature, weakness, or even personal choice. Addiction is a disease, with physical and psychological roots.

One doesn't tell someone with Muscular Dystrophy or Diabetes that if they tried harder or if they were a better person, they wouldn't be sick. (Religious cuckoos, notwithstanding.) It's critical to understand a disease, before attempting treatment. Doctors don't put band-aids on compound fractures or give aspirin to patients with ulcers, because they understand broken bones and bleeding stomachs.

Successful drug rehab requires that patients and clinicians understand - and appropriately treat - all of the underlying causes and triggers. It takes time for bones to mend and ulcers to heal, and it takes time and support to overcome addiction.
